description
Renovation of a dwelling on the main floor of a heritage-building classified with protection level B, in the Born neighborhood, a few meters from the church of Santa María del Mar. In the zones that connect with the facade, the structure of the house respects a regular and clear distribution of 5.5 meter width. The areas on the inner side of the building absorb the irregularities of the boundaries between the house and the adjoining plots and thus the interior façade receives natural light from two different patios. Functionally, the service spaces of the house are placed here: entrance, kitchen, hallways and bathrooms.
The project eliminates interior divisions added to the original house from 1848, recovering the sequence of three spacious rooms linked by central axis. On the facade, the carpentry is replaced by wooden doors, respecting the original design of the classified building and the ceiling beams are left with their natural wood color. During the work, polychrome paintings were discovered on some beams, which have been left as a memory of the history of the house. In two of the bedrooms the ceilings also recovered the colour of the original paint.
In the hallway that connects entrance/kitchen with the living room, three original openings are respected, while the wood texture is accentuated in the lintels and side jambs. A new interior bathroom is created, in which the application of matte glass on the ceiling, together with the mirror and the shower screen, broadens the feeling of space. For its entrance door, an original door is recycled, turning it into a sliding door.
