description
The court building is another “eternal” work. Work began in 1984 and it is a clear bulding in terms of typology, although the various changes inthe alegal stratum tested it. An inner street linked the vertical communication cores while the offices, with narrow high and deep windows to avoid the strong sun stroke at this angle, were established on the façade. The façade (the front and the enclosure) was highly important. Owing to its size, it was unfeasible to make it fit in with the wetting but we did not intend to express any kind of formal high-tech outburst. We thought that the city of Lleida was regaining a sense of modern civilisation, far removed from the former El Canyeret, and we thus believed the building should bear a cold, polite repetitive “Nordic” tone as if we were automatically able to import the civic virtues of more advanced cultures. From 2007 to 2014 the “Palau” was enlarged with a part-underground basement under the public area. New rooms are now accessible from de elevator-tower plaza.
