DESCRIPTION
Tender to work on the old Barony of Escriche near Teruel. We got in touch with Teruel architect Amador Guillén who gladly agreed to cooperate and we undertook an extensive visit of Escriche (2003). It was interesting case because it was an unpolluted valley with a virtually ruined manor that was difficult to access. Moreover, the Town council under the familiar slogan “Teruel exists also” deemed that the valley needed to generate economic benefit in order to be sustainable (the double meaning of the term is ambiguous and common). Amador introduced us to a historian, biologists and botanists who had looked into the unusual case of the lack of pollution and we approached the problem in a manner aimed at preserving local plant and animal life, independence in energy production and natural waste removal all with a view to forming a kind of green tourist destination with a meeting centre, hotel and student residence. We prepared plans and built a model to express this minimal intervention without rejecting the artificial, designed treatment of the natural universe.
